A fun ball pit for Nathaniel to continue refining his gross motor skills at home

Posted Nov 19, 2024
This ball pit is similar to the one used during Nathaniel's occupational therapy sessions. His therapist recommended it as a tool to enhance his progress at home. The pit can be filled with balls or soft toys, and it can also serve as a cozy, safe space for him to calm down. Due to his history of abuse and presumed neglect, Nathaniel struggles with severe temper tantrums. Although he is gaining confidence in his current home, he still exhibits some signs of his past trauma, such as sleeping under his crib or toddler bed instead of in it, and reacting strongly when he doesn't get his way. The ball pit used in therapy has been beneficial for him, and having one at home would likely be equally helpful.

Nathaniel is 3 years old and lives in NC

Nathaniel is a sweet and active little boy who loves his foster sister and his toy vacuum. He attends daycare/pre-school five days a week where he is learning his colors and songs, like “Wheels on the Bus.” He came into care approximately one year ago and is now in a pre-adoptive home. Also in the home is a second foster child, who has quickly taken on the role of big sister. He loves music, gymnastics classes, and pretend cleaning: His favorite toys are spray bottles and real vacuum cleaners. Nathaniel also participates in speech therapy and occupational therapy.
