Mackenzie and her brother have lived with their grandparents since she was 2 weeks old. Once the legalities were worked through, they moved far away up in the mountains away from the negativity. She loves being outside, running up the mountain and rolling back down. She loves to collect rocks and splash in creeks! Small-town living is definitely what's best for her. She loves animals of all kinds and always wants to take care of them. She wants to be a veterinarian or a teacher when she grows up. She also loves to do art projects. She makes paper houses for small toy animals, and she even makes paper clothes. She is so creative! She loves to draw, too, and often makes cards for family members and friends. Mackenzie is nonverbal and has gone through a lot of physical therapy, occupational therapy, as well as continues in speech therapy. She has been diagnosed with speech asphyxia. She struggles to communicate, so it is hard to know what she wants. She makes verbal sounds that her family can figure out sometimes. She also uses a speech device to communicate and sometimes sign language when she can't be understood enough to be figured out. She loves to dance and goes to dance class. She is also in Girl Scouts and loves learning new things. MacKenzie is very friendly and loves to play with anyone. She is very kind and helpful to the teachers at her school.
