When Zane was 12 years old, his mother passed away. Zane and his siblings were then taken in by family members. They lived periodically with his father and his father's girlfriend. In the years following his mother's death, Zane struggled in many aspects of his life, which caused him to fall behind in school. Eventually, Zane and his siblings were removed from their father's care due to poor home conditions. Zane's father now lives out of state and seldom communicates with Zane. Since living with his mother's cousin, Zane has had a better outlook on life and has been doing better in school. He has even been able to maintain contact with his siblings! Zane has recently been participating in the Collaborative Care Program, where he is learning Independent Living Skills that he will need to be a successful young adult. Zane has been working hard to improve his grades and complete his coursework on time to graduate.
