McKye was bursting with excitement for Halloween this year; it marked the first time his mother would let him go trick-or-treating with his friends on their own. They knew the neighborhood inside and out and planned to check in every 30 minutes to ensure everything was okay. However, McKye felt a pang of disappointment as his mother, struggling financially, couldn't afford anything for Halloween this year. He understood the situation but felt let down because he and his friends had all decided to dress up as Army soldiers. Unfortunately, McKye doesn't have any items at home to create a costume.
