A Week of Pet Sitting for Jordan During a Crisis!
Posted Nov 12, 2024
Jordan was in foster care for five years before aging out in 2019. He was in a group home during those years, and really struggled to reach his goals due to the emotional turmoil of institutional living. When he left care, there was no housing plan in place, and he struggled for several years. But he persevered, and finally secured a voucher that enabled him to find stability.
Jordan has faced challenges on his path to adulthood, but since getting his voucher he has managed to maintain stable housing and consistent employment. He is a passionate pet lover and is the proud owner of two sweet dogs who he loves dearly. These dogs are so much more than pets for Jordan, they are his emotional support and constant beacons of love and joy for him. Recently, however, Jordan experienced a sudden mental health crisis and was taken to the hospital, with no chance for him to arrange for care for his beloved pets. His mentors were informed by his building management that since Jordan was not home to care for his pets, they had no choice but to call the ASPCA to have them removed. Understanding that this would be devastating for him, Jordan’s mentors worked tirelessly to find a pet sitter after discovering that no shelters could foster the dogs. Fortunately, they found a wonderful person on Rover who was willing to travel to pick up the dogs and purchase the necessary supplies. This wish would help to keep the consistent pet sitter for the next week, allowing Jordan and his team of advocates and healthcare workers time to determine the best path forward. Jordan does not have any support system outside of these mentors, and we hope that the wonderful OSW community can help him in this time of need.
