Kayla has been living in the shelter system for almost 3 years. Just recently, she finally was able to get into her first apartment as a young person living on her own. This holiday season, Kayla biggest wish is for a bed for her to comfortably rest when she gets home late from working 2 jobs. Kayla currently sleeps on blankets on the floor, but you will never see her complain because she is filled with gratitude for having a place to call her own. A bed would give Kayla the dignity that she has long deserved.

Kayla is a young woman who always has a smile on her face despite any struggles that may come her way. Known for her being a friend to everyone she meets, Kayla extends warmth to others because she knows how painful it can be to feel bullied and ridiculed. Kayla is a natural advocate for anyone who in need of help finding their own voice. Due to an abusive home environment, Kayla found herself living in the NYC shelter system at just 19 years old. She would make her fellow peers feel dignity in the shelter by offering to do their hair and make-up just so they were reminded that they, too, were beautiful. Kayla loves to cook and sing and just recently became an aunt for the first time, welcoming her nephew into the world.
