Markers for Sandra who uses as a coping mechanism

Posted Jan 2, 2025
Sandra struggles with emotional stability, largely due to her unsafe living environment. As someone who is new to the system, she has limited coping mechanisms for her symptoms of depression. Recently, she was introduced to using markers as an outlet to help prevent self-harming behaviors. Granting her this wish would provide her with valuable tools for regulating her emotions and promoting her mental well-being.

Sandra is 15 years old and lives in CA

Sandra recently entered the foster care system along with her six siblings because their mother was unable to care for them. Life has dealt her a tough hand; she has experienced significant trauma from neglect and abuse. As a result, Sandra struggles with her mental health and has faced thoughts of suicide, grappling with the weight of her experiences. Despite these challenges, she is truly dedicated to her recovery and is actively seeking hope and healing. What shines through most is her ability to smile and laugh with her siblings, whom she loves deeply. Their bond brings her joy and strength. Even with everything she’s been through, Sandra has remained an outstanding student. She dreams of becoming a doctor or a lawyer, motivated to create a better future for herself and her family. Her resilience is inspiring, and she continues to push forward, proving that hope can flourish even in the darkest of times.

"As someone who has had a long and difficult battle with self-harm I want you to know that one day it will not suck this bad. People like to say your teenage years are the best of your life and show it on tv and movies as such but it truly isn't. You will have better days, your life will not always be this hard and one day you will be able to buy and eat a whole pie by yourself just cause you can. Good luck and always be a little weird."

One Simple Wish sends the gift to the Tessie Cleveland Community Services Corporation for Sandra.
