A Nintendo Switch for Marty to help him cope with stressors

Posted Jan 8, 2025
Marty is a young boy brimming with energy, who has navigated significant transitions over the past year and a half, including changing schools and moving in with his relative caregiver. Despite these challenges, Marty has shown remarkable resilience, managing to improve his grades from being two levels behind to nearly grade level. However, the pressure of these changes has taken a toll on him, leading him to use video games, particularly the Legend of Zelda series, as a coping mechanism. Marty typically plays on his Nintendo Switch to help him relax and find some comfort amidst the upheaval in his life. Unfortunately, his console has recently broken, leaving him unable to escape into his favorite games. He has expressed to his CASA and relative caregiver how much he would love a new gaming system for Christmas, as it plays a crucial role in helping him settle down and cope with the stresses he faces. Given Marty's remarkable resilience during these transitions, fulfilling his wish for a new gaming system would be a wonderful gesture. Sadly, his relative caregiver is unable to provide this due to their limited income, making it even more important to explore ways to support Marty during this time.

Marty is 11 years old and lives in CA

Marty was removed from his home because his parents were unable to provide a safe living environment or meet his basic needs, such as food, shelter, and medical and dental care. Despite this, Marty is a fun and talkative child who enjoys video games, military airplanes, and ships. He is respectful to his teachers and likes riding the school bus. One of his favorite video games is Fortnite, and he recently started playing soccer after school. Due to his love for military airplanes, his Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) often takes him to the local Midway Museum, where he particularly enjoys the flight simulator on board the ship.
