A Meta Quest VR headset for Miguel to heal and grow

Posted Jan 8, 2025
For many months now, Miguel has been yearning for a Batman virtual reality (VR) headset, seeing it as something far beyond a mere toy. To him, this headset symbolizes a vital escape from the trauma he has endured throughout his life. With heartfelt sincerity, he has conveyed to his CASA that immersing himself in the vibrant, exhilarating realms of virtual reality would provide him with a much-needed refugeā€”a place where he can momentarily set aside his worries and burdens. Miguel envisions the VR headset as a transformative tool that would not only help him unwind but also allow him to acquire new skills and knowledge. He imagines stepping into fantastical landscapes, full of color and adventure, where he can interact with others in a safe and supportive environment. The allure of engaging with beloved characters and navigating stimulating challenges ignites a sense of excitement in him. For Miguel, this headset represents a unique opportunity for healing, growth, and a significant boost to his self-confidence, enabling him to connect with others while fostering a sense of belonging and joy in the process.

Miguel is 14 years old and lives in CA

Miguel was abandoned by his birth parents, then adopted and abused by his adoptive family, and finally placed in foster care. He is a creative young man who loves music. His hobby is writing songs that are meaningful to him. He enjoys explaining what the lyrics mean to him. He plays the clarinet and the guitar. Miguel began ninth grade in September 2024 but missed many days of school and was failing most of his classes. In January 2025, he was transferred to a new school where he hopes to earn straight As, as he had in middle school.
