Helmet and pads for JJ to learn to skateboard safely

Posted Jan 24, 2025
JJ is a bright and energetic boy with a big heart and a love for adventure. Since entering foster care, he’s faced significant challenges, particularly with his behavior at home and school. One of the biggest hurdles for JJ has been his severe speech impediment, which makes communication a daily struggle. Recently, JJ received a skateboard and was thrilled to ask his CASA to teach him how to skate during their outings. Unfortunately, JJ doesn’t have essential protective gear like a helmet, knee pads, or elbow pads. Providing this equipment will not only keep JJ safe but also allow him to explore a new skill, building his confidence and independence. Skating will give JJ more than just fun—it’s a chance to feel supported, capable, and proud of himself. By equipping JJ with the gear he needs, we can help nurture his growth and ensure these special moments with his CASA continue to flourish.

JJ is 9 years old and lives in CA

JJ has faced significant challenges in his young life, having been removed from his father's care due to concerns of domestic violence in the home. This followed a previous removal from his mother's care in another state after her arrest. Despite these hardships, JJ remains an active and curious boy, with a vibrant love for watching YouTube videos and playing Minecraft on his tablet. Although he encounters some difficulties in school, particularly with his behavior and a severe speech impediment, his resilience shines through in his enthusiasm for learning and trying new activities.
