For most of her life, Miyanah has faced incredibly challenging circumstances through no fault of her own; navigating a childhood around substance abuse and mental health issues before ultimately entering foster care. These experiences have taken a significant toll on both her physical and mental well-being. After being placed in foster care—an experience that brought its own set of difficulties—Miyanah eventually transitioned back home, reuniting with her mom and engaging in home-based support services that helped stabilize her living environment. However, her mother continues to struggle with mental health issues, which can sometimes feel overwhelming and unpredictable. As Miyanah approaches her 18th birthday, she is focused on securing a full-time job and stable housing. She sees this as the best way for her to work on her well-being and personal goals in the healthiest environment for her. Miyanah believes that the best way for her to achieve her personal goals is to further her education, so she has spent hours after school with counselors drafting her plan. Miyanah will be registering for classes at City College of San Francisco, with classes starting in August 2025. She plans to complete general education requirements and eventually transfer to San Francisco State University to earn a four-year degree. She has also spent hours researching computers and found the perfect MacBook, which she has tested and feels comfortable using. Additionally, she has discovered a local group that utilizes MacBooks and has formed a support and troubleshooting community, so she believes she will be well-prepared to receive assistance once she has this laptop. This laptop is pivitol in Miyanah's ultimate plan for independence and the fresh start she needs to focus on her goals.
