A Month of Karate Lessons for Payton to release excess energy and meet new friends

Posted Feb 26, 2021
As part of Payton’s transition to his new home, he has lost touch with a lot of the friends he had back in New York. Additionally, the fact that he’s attending school virtually means that he does not have a lot of people his own age with whom to connect. His aunt experienced foster care herself as a child and found karate to be helpful to her development in spite of the struggles she went through. Karate can then be an outlet for Payton’s energy AND a place where he can meet other children in the area prior to starting school next year. For a child who has dealt with so much loss, Payton’s spirits are incredibly high, so continuing to find ways to use his energy productively will help to keep him engaged and active as he develops into a healthy, happy kid.

Payton is 14 years old and lives in NJ

Payton is a resilient kiddo who is adjusting to a brand new environment. Both of his parents passed away, so he moved from the city in New York to rural New Jersey to live with his Godmother and aunt. Payton loves LEGOs and dinosaurs and will happily detail facts about his toys and games whenever asked. He is very friendly, open, and appreciative, and he has a fantastic relationship with his Godmother who has dedicated her home and life to him. Payton’s aunt would like to see him grow up to be an engineer, which makes sense given his penchant for building and creating, and his understanding of the inner workings of the games he plays or things he builds. Payton also has some excess energy, possibly as a result of some of the experiences he had both before and shortly after his birth, so he really needs outlets to express his energy to be happy.
